2010 Election: Unemployment Solutions – The Democrats

The Democratic Party has never been known for its business-friendly solutions. Even during the Great Depression, Roosevelt enacted policies that kept the country from collapsing, but he did little to encourage economic growth. Unfortunately Roosevelt has left his legacy on the current Democratic Party. Voters would be hard pressed to name one good thing the current President has done for the economy that has been helpful. A few misguided souls may say health care without understanding the implications of the bill.

What Are The Democratic Parties Solutions To The Unemployment Problem

Had there been no Republican and some Democratic opposition to the extension of COBRA benefits, the solution would have been only slightly different from what it actually was. The only key difference was that health insurance benefits would have gone on for 99 weeks as well. While some people do need health insurance to pay for care for pre-existing conditions, most people will not need coverage until they can find another job. An astute observer may wonder if the democratic plans extend to their overall economic solution.

 

Spend More Money: The Democratic Answer

The Obama administration, like decades of administrations before him has answered the problem by spending more money and not restraining the financial purse strings. They have also, perhaps stupidly, printed more money in order to take care of the debt. Printing more money does not lead to debts getting paid on the national level, it simply leads to hyper inflation. Spending more money has not solved any of the financial problems. Government spending cannot fix the problems. The solutions must come by encouraging businesses to get the wheels of commerce to flow again. A great way to do that is overturning and not passing extremely restrictive taxation policies. States can do their part as well.
