Chicago Man Suspected Of Terrorism Pleas Not-Guilty

Headley is an American citizen who was arrested for coordinating terrorist attacks in 2008. He allegedly helped set up multiple attacks in Mumbai that are responsible for the death of 166 people. The arraignment that took place in early December only lasted five minutes.
Headley Waves Legal Rights
It has been reported that Headley is cooperating with the federal prosecutors working on his case. He has voluntary waved his legal right to be indicted by a grand jury. The 49 year old Headley was charged with nine felonies that arose from his involvement in the Mumbai terrorist attacks that occoured in November 2008, and an additional three felonies for his involvement in a plot to attack a Danish newspaper. The Danish newspaper that was the planned target was the same paper that in 2005 deeply offended many Muslims by publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
Plotting Mumbai Attacks
According to prosecutors Headley made many trips back a forth to India and Pakistan over a two year period in order to videotape places that were planned to be attacked, as well as meet and brief individuals plotting the Mumbai attacks. Headley also allegedly traveled to Copenhagen in order to meet with individuals to plan an attack on the Danish newspaper. This attack never materialized.
Court Appointed Lawyers
Headley is represented by two court appointed lawyers. One of his attorneys, John Theis, said to reporters, “These are very serious charges; we’re treating them very seriously. I want to remind everyone that he is presumed innocent of these charges.” David Coleman Headley is a US citizen born in Washington DC on June 30, 1960. He was originally named Daood Sayed Gilani, but apparently changed his name in 2006 in order to make it easier for him to travel from the US to other countries. He recently moved his family to Chicago, Il where he was arrested.
