Director Kathyrn Bigelow’s “Hurt Locker” Gets Nod For Nine Oscars
By James Fox on February 28, 2010, 6:04 pmDirector Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker,” has been nominated for nine Oscars. “The Hurt Locker” is one of the lowest-grossing best-picture nominees ever nominated. Bigelow’s movies’ poor showing at the box office should receive a shot in the arm with the latest group of Oscar nominations. Bigelow is not new on the scene as a director. Some of her other works include “Point Break,” “Blue Steel,” “Strange Days,” and “The Widowmaker.” She has had somewhat of an uneven career yet she always seems to produce extremely interesting films.
Other Oscar Nominations For The Film
“The Hurt Locker” was written by Mark Boal. The movie is set in Iraq where an elite Army unit must work together, in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, in a city where anyone and everyone can be an enemy. Also, any object they see can be a potentially deadly bomb. Although Boal did not receive an Oscar nomination, other categories up for the award include best actor, cinematography, film editing, original score, best picture, sound editing, sound mixing, original screenplay, and Bigelow’s directing.
The Cast Helps Make “The Hurt Locker” A Believable Movie
The film, purported to be the best non-documentary made about the war in Iraq, has been considered as the best action movie of last summer. The main characters include Brian Geraghty who plays Specialist Owen Eldridge, is depicted as a man who is eager to please while being ashamed of his own fear. Sgt. J.T. Sanborn, acted by Anthony Mackie, who is an uncomplaining professional. His belief that observing protocol and procedures will get him home alive and safe. Jeremy Renner plays Staff Sgt. William James. James joins the groups after their leader is killed. Pinned as a heavy metal fan as well as a heavy smoker, he approaches each new bomb as though it is his mission.

“The Hurt Locker” was one of the best movies, I have ever seen & I am a female who prefers Avatar type movies! Avatar is more my type movie, but “The Hurt Locker” was the BEST! I can see Avatar, maybe getting an Oscar for ‘special effects’. Even, James Cameron is pleased with his ex-wife’s movie!
