The Oscar nominations have been released. Two Directors pitted against each other include Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker,” and James Cameron, “Avatar.” These two directors are former husband and wife. Now divorced they will face each other once again in the battle for the Oscar. Interestingly, “Avatar” is the highest grossing film of all time while “The Hurt Locker,” is one of the lowest grossing films best-picture Oscar nominees of all time. Both films have been nominated for nine Oscars.

Battle Of The Ex’s

The ex-husband and wife have been billed as the “battle of the ex’s,” as they each hope to win the highly coveted award. The duo had a similar situation at the Critics Choice Awards held in January. During that award program they posed together for pictures and seemed friendly enough. The two have been cast with Cameron being the flamboyant tech wizard and his ex being his thoughtful, shrinking violet. While Cameron’s film was an expensive movie costing $230 million, his ex’s cost one-twentieth to bring to the big screen. The cost was around $11 million.

They Meet On The Set Of “Blue Steel”

In 1989 Cameron was divorced from his second wife, Gale Anne Hurd. While looking for actors he visited the set of the movie, “Blue Steel.” The movie was being directed by Bigelow and that is where the two first met. She eventually became wife number three. They became husband and wife that same year. The two then worked together on “Point Break,” starting Keanu Reeves. Cameron was the producer while his wife was the director. It was suggested that work got in their way and in 1991 the two divorced. Cameron is currently with his fifth wife while Bigelow never remarried. Cameron, known for his whip-cracking behavior is a contrast to his ex-wife who is known for her calm and professionalism.
