Is Sen. Jim Bunning The Last Ethical & Responsible Person In Congress?
By Susan Thompson on March 3, 2010, 1:51 pmRepublican Sen. Jim Bunning caves in his stand against a $10 billion spending bill last night. He stood up to the arrogant and hypocritical Dems in congress. And shame on the spineless Reps who chickened out. Americans will certainly remember this unbelievable display that members of congress have done that may be the worst ever with the exception of when the Dems shove the healthcare bill down America’s throat in a few weeks.
Protecting The Future Of Our Country
Sen. Bunning’s stand is that funding programs such as unemployment compensation, highway construction, Medicare payments to doctors, and satellite TV for rural folks only expand the deficit if there are no offsetting cuts or tax increases.
Sen. Bunning said in a statement that there is something wrong when there is a bill and the $10 billion to support that bill cannot be found to pay for it. He went on to say that he will object to every bill that faces this problem. He pointed out that his main goal is to preserve the America that he grew up in for his grandchildren. After days of holding up the bill and many negotiations between Senate Democrats, Republicans, as well as his own staff, Sen. Jim Bunning removed his objection against the spending bill last night.
Angry Man Of The Senate
During his 11 years in the Senate, the 78-year-old Sen. Bunning has come to be known as the crazy uncle in the Senate attic. Some say that there is nothing you can do to keep him in line because he is retiring at the end of this session. Sen. Bunning has been quite racy in the past with his comments about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s health, going so far as to say that she would be dead within a year and saying that his Democratic opponent, Daniel Mongiardo, looked like one of Saddam Hussein’s sons. Is he racy? You could say that, but he is also insightful enough to see that our already large deficit is on steroids.

Yes, shame on those spineless Republicans… Oh wait, it was just Jim Bunning. The rest of the senate Republicans recognized the necessity of this legislation – it was a near unanimous vote.. all except for Jim Bunning of course. That is no real surprise. He is old and bitter and stands no chance of reelection. He is not worried about public perception (and I doubt if he had the funds he could convince people he deserves another run). As the selfish ass he is he has nothing to lose.
