Medicare News: Is Coverage For Seniors On Its Way Out
By Susan Thompson on July 18, 2010, 8:11 amMedicare was passed in 1965 by President Johnson, a part of his Great Society. This was meant to help indigents, people who were poverty stricken.
Medicare Scam Fraud
On July 16, 2010, the biggest medicare fraud scam was discovered in several major U.S. cities. The cities included Detroit, Brooklyn, Houston, Miami and Baton Rouge. The scam totaled $251 million dollars. This case represents only a fraction of the total costs attributed to medicare fraud. That total is approximately $60 billion.
Medicare was once a dream of one president in history to provide help to those who could not afford proper care. Medicare has become one big fraudulent nightmare for all of us. The medicare program has been abused and it has taken up billions of tax payer dollars. This hurts not only the people it was intended to help, but it also issues a death warrant to those who have paid into the coverage. Future generations may not hear or know about medicare. It would appear that medicare has come to a ghastly end.
Worst Case
The worst case scenario here is that there were several doctors and nurses caught in the scam. If the total cost of fraudulent medicare claims is taken into account, just how many medical personnel are actually involved? The victims are the poor and indigent. The ones responsible, those patients and doctors who promote the fraud, are the ones who should be tried and convicted. The Great Society is in shambles. The poor continue to be poor. If medicare should end, many will go uncared for and suffer for it.
Our government recently passed Health Care Reform. For the first time, federal authorities have the power to overhaul the health care system. This can be done. One immediate remedy is to stop paying providers who are suspected of being fraudulent. Restitution to the poor is still possible.
