NBA’s Steve Nash Big Proponent Of Energy Conservation
By James Fox on April 4, 2010, 9:44 amUnlike many energy conservation proponents, Steve Nash, NBA star of the Phoenix Suns, practices what he preaches. He should be an example to green advocate politicians who drive gas guzzling vehicles, fly on whims in planes leaving carbon footprints as big as Godzilla’s, and whose general lifestyles produce more carbon emissions in a year than the average person does in lifetime.
True Green
Because so many companies use celebrities to promote and advertise their products, the savvy consumer is somewhat, if not altogether, skeptical when products are promoted by them, but Steve Nash is not your typical celebrity mascot for product promotion. The basketball star has been selected to promote Arizona Power Company’s campaign for greener energy. This is not just some flash in the pan deal to make more money for Steve Nash. He promoted earth hour in March of this year, encouraging all to turn off their lights for an hour. He has built the Steve Nash Foundation aimed at encouraging youth to contribute to conservation efforts in their communities. His Trash Talk line of Nike sneaker is made from recycled materials with all of the performance expected from any less environmentally friendly performance footwear. These efforts are all true green initiatives.
NBA Allows US To Cash In On Environmental Pride
Without the NBA, Nash may never have been as well known in the US, and the US might not be sharing the recognition for Nash’s green goals. He hails from British Columbia where his foundation is headquartered. The US should be grateful that he was drafted by the Suns and continues to be a US player whose career highs rival those of the names most recognized by those who are not basketball fans.
