NE Bizzard Major Backlash For All Major Airlines

All domestic airlines now are once again dreading hearing the “B-word” as one blizzard is passing through and another is poised to hit in a few days. This afternoon many of the major cities were either nearing or have surpassed their record snowfall levels. Airports across the Northeast are turning into ghost towns as fliers can’t even get to the airport to catch their flight that was more than likely canceled anyway.

American And American Eagle

American has been forced to cancel 300 flights on Wednesday. Most of those were in the northeast and Midwest. American Eagle has canceled 200 flights so far. American was able to get one flight into LaGuardia Wednesday morning but all the other ones were canceled or being shown as delayed. Other problem spots for American are Newark, Washington National, and Philadelphia. American has been doing its best to operate flights in the Midwest. American Eagle is having problems at most of the small airports it serves in the east.

Southwest

Southwest, who has a hub in Baltimore has been hit hard by these blizzards. On Tuesday, Southwest canceled all flights to and from Baltimore by mid-afternoon. All flights were canceled from Baltimore on Wednesday and the outlook is grim for Thursday. Other airports causing problems for Southwest are Dulles, Philadelphia, and LaGuardia. Overall Southwest has canceled almost 600 flights.

U.S. Airways

U.S. Airways has also had major problems all over the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. To date U.S. Airways has had to cancel hundreds of flights. U.S. Airways is offering a change fees waiver for customers that have to change their plans. Fliers will be able to revise their plans for up to seven days after their scheduled travel date.  I’m sure other airlines will offer the same deal to their customers, although some patience will have to be in order as planes and airport lines will be full.
