Obama Can’t Find TSA Leader That’s Not Corrupt Or Under Investigation

What started out as a “mistake” early on in the Obama administration has become a joke in Washington and fodder for late night TV humor. It seems as if the administration cannot find qualified people willing to serve this President. The last two nominees for the head of the Transportation Safety Agency have both bowed out under public scrutiny. Perhaps the administration vetting process is flawed.

Are The Republicans To Blame

There are those in the administration who love to point fingers at the Republicans in congress and blame them for blocking the nominations. First there was Erroll Southers who was nominated in December. He withdrew in January citing “political Ideology” as an obstruction in his path to the nomination. Administration spokesmen blamed Republican Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina for blocking his appointment. In actual fact, all Sen. DeMint did was call for a floor debate and roll call vote on the appointment. The administration was attempting to ram the appointment through by consent. Last Friday, Obama’s second appointment to the job, Maj Gen. Robert Harding (ret.), withdrew his nomination because of “distractions caused by his job as a defense contractor.”

 

What Is Happening At TSA

Since Obama took office, the TSA has not had a director approved by the Senate. In airline parlance, they are in a “holding pattern”. A TSA veteran employee, Gail Rossides, has been acting administrator. She has the ability to run the day-to-day operations, but without a director new programs cannot be implemented. The lack of permanent leadership has had a devastating effect on the morale of the agency. The unions see this as a great opportunity for them. Right now they are telling TSA employees that they, the unions, can look out for them better than an acting administrator.
