Poll Survey: Sarah Palin & Mitt Romney Lead Rep 2012 Election Bid

With the Presidential election still two years away, Republicans are starting to lineup to take on the Democratic incumbent who is considered extremely vulnerable by forces on both sides of the aisle. Even with President Barack Obama not sporting high numbers as far as popularity and job approval, the Republicans still see problems ahead in defeating him.

Muddy Waters And A Wide Open Field

Part of the problem in determining who best to nominate in an attempt to unseat Obama in 2012 is the sheer volume of candidates who want to be the chosen one of the GOP field. Whether it’s former Governors like Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee; or a former Speaker of the House like Newt Gingrich there doesn’t appear to be one person who is going to sprint into the lead. Each candidate has traits that the right wing public can be proud of, they also have their warts. In a Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of who would be the best Republican nominee, no one candidate distinguished themselves, and no candidate received even 20 percent of the vote.

Palin And Romney Inch Ahead

In the poll Sarah Palin did garner the highest amount of support, as 16 percent of respondents said that if the primaries were held today, they would vote for her. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney came in second, with 11 percent of the vote and barely beat out what can only be considered the darkest of dark horses in Dick Cheney who had 10 percent of respondents say they would vote for him should he choose to run.

What The Numbers Could Mean

Among the general public, Sarah Palin is not well liked as a recent poll showed that she had just a 30 percent approval rating when more than just Republicans were polled. While she may be popular among the Tea Party crowd Romney could end up being the candidate with more universal appeal.

The news photo of Romney shown on 16 Feb 2010 on yahoo news reflects something that is very dear to me. If one is to wear the American flag on personal article of clothing, it should be worn correctly. The American flag on Romneys right arm of his jeacket, is flying backwards. You’d think someone in his positon should know better how to respect our flag. You’d further think someone in his organization would advise him of such. A petty gripe, I know. But please have someone fix it for him. At least show respect, not just a symbol.
