Republicans Need To Bring Long List To Healthcare Summit

When President Obama called for a Healthcare Summit before the Super Bowl earlier this month, Republicans knew they would now have a chance, maybe just a small one, to inject some of their ideas into a healthcare proposal that may or may or may not ever come to a vote. The Republicans in Congress now need to regroup and bring their “A” game to this event which is slated to be held this week. Let’s look at what the GOP needs to bring to the table this week as this is an important current issue and one that still could be hovering over their heads come mid-terms in November.

Themselves

The Republicans need to show up in mass at this event. It’s no secret that this is an issue that the Dems and President Obama didn’t want to budge an inch on, but they are going to have to if this reform will ever take place. From leadership like Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to rank and file, they need to make their presence known.

Ideas

No only do they need to show up, they need to bring their ideas. The Republicans want to throw out what remains of the original plan and start over. U.S. House Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin has had his own plan for a while. This may be a starting point as we don’t know how flexible the Dems are going to be once the summit begins.

Bipartisan Spirit

It’s something that has been lacking in Washington for well over a decade, but it’s the only way we are going to get anything done. The summit is going to be televised live on CSPAN all day, what better way to show the country that Republicans are willing to work than to show off some bipartisan spirit, early and often.
