Robert Gibbs: The Face Of The Administration

By Richard West on January 16, 2010, 8:10 am

Robert Gibbs is the current press secretary for the Obama administration. The idea that this man is representing the president, and answering questions related to policy and statements is fascinating. Admittedly, Mr. Gibbs does not have an easy job. Fielding questions from the press has never been easy, especially on live television. From his blundering, snickering, and sometimes arrogant answers, he may represent the attitude of not only the administration, but the Democrat Party as well.

Comedian Or Bumbler

Mr. Gibbs constantly seems to have a perplexed look on his face as if to say, how dare you question us? It seems that the press is FINALLY doing their job by questioning legitimate issues, and not glossing over them as in the past. The first winds of change happened back in July 2009, when a town meeting with President Obama was planned. Mr. Gibbs was question by CBS News and Helen Thomas on the fact that the questions given through Facebook and Twitter were being controlled and prepackaged by the president’s staff. He never really admitted that the questions were being controlled, and shrugged it off by asking if the report had sent in his own email question yet.

The Administration’s Face

Maybe Mr. Gibbs is the face of the administration, by his lack of listening to dissension, dismissing it as unimportant, or blaming it on the conservative republicans and Fox News. Surprisingly, Mr Gibbs allows someone like Jake Tapper to field questions at him, almost regularly, and allows him to sit up in the front and not in the far back seats. It must give off a sense of fairness, even though he probably regrets it every time he calls on him. Mr. Gibbs does have a difficult job, but maybe as a representative of the administration, he does it far too well.
