Spineless Larry Summers Blames Jobless Numbers On Winter Storms

By Donald Griffith on March 4, 2010, 8:26 am

Larry Summers, White House Economic Adviser, explained that the jobless numbers, to be released this Friday, will be taken with a grain of salt. According to Summers, “The blizzards that affected much of the country during the last month are likely to distort the statistics. In past blizzards, those statistics have been distorted by 100,000 to 200,000 jobs.” So, it seems that we already have the answer so no one will need to wait, with baited breathe, until the actual numbers are released.

Greece Needs To Gain Control Of Their Budget

With a quick of a change in the subject Summers quickly reported, “With respect to Europe, I am obviously very concerned about what’s happening in Greece and Portugal, in Spain, in Italy, on the European continent.” He expressed the need that the Greek budget needs to be better under control and provide more support in order to stabilize the situation. To many, this observation seemed difficult to listen to considering the condition of the United States’ economy and budget.

Construction Activity Also Hit Hard

Reuters reported that the storms really hit the construction field with full force. Reuters reported that a number of stores, as well as many restaurants, were forced to close their doors during the intense storms. This, of course, hurt the respective businesses and also stopped any activity having to do with hiring more employees. This also caused other employees to be out of work. On top of all this negative news the Huffington Post reports that more than 200,000 already laid-off workers will lose their unemployment benefits, prematurely, due to Kentucky Republican Senator Jim Bunning’s refusal to allow the Senate to extend last year’s stimulus bill. Summers indicated he has no desire to change jobs. He stated, “I like what I’m doing.”
