Tea Party Movement: Congress Blinded By Their Own Healthcare Ideology
By James Fox on March 9, 2010, 6:32 amAs voices for change become louder and louder in Washington, the Tea Party Movement gathers steam faster and faster. The whole situation reminds one of the so-called “death spiral” where the more one struggles against an obvious ensnarement, the tighter the trap becomes. Escape is impossible and the weak must yield to the overwhelming majority.
Okay, Enough With The Metaphors
But still, the Tea Party is entirely correct in that the Congress is the proverbial “Emperor With No Clothes” and deserves to be voted out of office. Congress talks budget reduction, yet votes for program after program. Congress talks ethics reform, yet even old, stodgy Charlie Wrangel can’t stay out of trouble. And Congress is dead wrong in that they are promoting programs supported by the populace, when a vast majority of survey respondents disagree with the administration’s health care plan.
The Tea Party Movement folks are also correct in that the Washington Beltway crowd live in the echo chamber of D.C. politics. After hearing the same sound bites by the same leaders over and over again, the leaders in question believe what they are saying. And if that is not just absurd, what is worse is when Congressmen go back to their districts and confront the people, and then are astonished when the citizens show up angry.
Immune Congressmen Have An Awakening Coming
The simple fact is that being a member of Congress is akin to being a member of royalty. Once a Congressman survives their first term, he or she is pretty much immune to anything. Just bring the pork home for the constituents. And that’s a widely held view among the politicos in Washington, or at least that has been the status quo for at least a decade or more. But therein lies the validity of the Tea Party movement in that what has always worked before to save incumbents jobs may not work again this time.

That’s a pretty dumb argument. It is the people who keep electing the representatives over and over again. Therefore, the members of Congress are not “royalty” and thus can not be “emperors without clothes”.
The only way we can solve the health crises is to pass a constitutional amendment issued and run by the people in each state that requires all Congressmen and Senators to be on Medicare Only, AND that when they retire to be only on Social Security income. Then and only then will these two problems be solved for all Americans. They should be required to pay into Soc sec just like the rest of us do, and reap the benefits just like the rest of us do( or in this case don’t)!!
