Tea Party Movement Gaining Momentum At Alarming Speed
By Richard West on February 7, 2010, 7:58 amIf you listen to the national news – any source of national news – you will learn very quickly that there is something unusual going on across this great country. Not unlike the patriots of yesteryear, modern day “patriots” are upset by what they see as unnecessary spending by the federal government, too many taxes (and announced plans for more taxes, particularly on the upper-middle class) and, what they say is, government corruption, such as the Nebraska “Cornhusker Kickback” and the “Louisana Purchase” which, according to Movement leaders, are symptomatic of governmental abuse of money, and power because Congressional leaders used federal dollars to “convince” key Congresspersons to vote in favor of certain legislation that was “stuck.” The other main issues are national security, at which they believe the Obama administration is failing, and upholding the Constitution, which they believe is being ignored by Congress and the current administration.
Tea Party Or Tea-Baggers
The group known as The Tea Party Movement (or alternately the Tea Baggers), is holding a national convention this week in Nashville, TN. The sold-out event features former GOP leader Newt Gingrich, but more notably the captivating Sarah Palin, who, as you will remember ran as John McCain’s running mate in their attempt to win the White House in 2008. There is a lot of excitement expressed about her Saturday night address to the assembled group. Palin recently scored a major victory with her best-selling book “Going Rogue An American Life,” which “went platinum” in only two weeks. She has also scored a victory for her Political Action Committee, which raised $2.1 million in the last year, with $1.4 million of that raised in the last six months (Fox News, January 31, 2010).
A Big Boost
They are being energized by the remarkable – and unexpected – win by Scott Brown of the Senate seat long held by the late Senator from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy. They frequently note that he was down by 30 points at one stage, but came back to win by 5 points. This is giving hope to prospective and declared conservative candidates across the country, who want to claim as many Congressional seats as they can. The leaders have also called a news conference for Friday when they are expected to announce that they will provide financial support to candidates that meet their criteria in the three main areas of their concern: fiscal policy, Constitutional issues and national security.

“The group known as The Tea Party Movement (or alternately the Tea Baggers)…..”
No. They are not alternatively “known” as “Tea Baggers”. That is a slang for an oral sex act typically done by a woman to a man or by a Liberal to another Liberal. It is Liberals who use the two terms interchangeably. Keep mocking it. It won’t stop the movement.
Late to read this, but yes, the term “tea bagger” is a juvenile method the far left enjoys stating often and publicly in a way of mocking the movement towards fiscal conservatism and sustainable public policies.
As a classical liberal (little “L” libertarian), I am disgusted with politics and politicians in general, and will vote for whoever finally comes to their senses and realized that we have to halt this massive slide towards socialism and authoritarianism/statism in this, our nation.
