Tea Party Movement: You Can’t Fire Us Voters – We Will Fire You
By Donald Griffith on April 3, 2010, 9:27 amProtesters in Boston once decided to dump British tea exports into the Boston Harbor to bring attention to what they felt was an unfair tax on the American colonists. This act helped spark the American Revolution and has marked the attitudes of its citizens towards excessive taxes ever since. The modern Tea Party movement strives to bring about greater government fiscal responsibility. The one valid criticism is that the Tea Party should have started in the 1960s, instead of waiting until the dawn of the 21st Century.
Firing The Politicians
The Obama Administration has shown little control over financial spending. While the current President inherited a large debt from the Bush administration, neither Obama nor his supporters announced any plans to bring the government spending under control. Instead, they announced new massive spending programs. Cash for Clunkers and two stimulus bills ultimately failed to get the economy moving again.
The Tea Party movement started as a protest to the attitude towards spending in Washington. Fox News and other conservative organizations rally behind it, but the goals of the Tea Party are not Republican nor Democratic in nature. Tea Party members want the federal and state governments to stop spending money it does not have. Getting spending and taxes under control will lead to greater opportunity and prosperity.
Firing The Current Politicians
The current congress has passed many unpopular bills, despite the public anger over it. The DNC hopes that the voters will forget by November, but many members of the Tea Party movement and many others unhappy with the way business has been done will arrange for a congressional regime change this November. The House of Representative, the Senate, and the White House should prepare for Republican gains in the congress and the senate this November if the current behavior of these organizations does not change. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi does have a nice ring to it.
