The Impact Of Big Government On African American Communities
By Donald Griffith on February 1, 2010, 12:04 pmOne section of big government has documentation that a one-time director was adamant about destroying black community leaders. These prominent leaders inspired the black community and provided hope and solutions to the improvement of life. This was during a time when racial injustice was apparent, as well as, the generally acceptance of police brutality as a regular course of procedure. However those prominent community leaders, did not accept the status quo, they spoke out and encouraged everyone to take action against the injustice.
Racial Injustice
These seditious acts lead to unlawful surveillance, imprisonment, torture and assassination of black leaders. Although big government may not have produced the kill shot, they did their very best to incite these murders. For example, the instigation of the big government ignited the feud between Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam, which lead to the horrific death of Malcolm X, in 1965. Marcus Garvey, James Baldwin, W.E.B. Bois, Fanny Lou Hamer, Martin Luther King, Jr, A. Philip Randolph, Paul Robeson, Bayard Rustin, Roy Wilkins and Medgar Evers, to name a few, were caught under the destructive rule of the big Government.
Another example of the big government’s impact on the black community, was during World War I when special agents were sent to the black communities, to gain information about the draft and investigate rumors of rebellion. This type of infringement upon civil liberties were one of the ways to seek out the noise makers in the black communities. Furthermore for forty years, the big government followed, watched and recorded the world travels of W.E.B. Bois.
Impact
The effects of big government after decades of unlawful surveillance, horrific deaths and racial injustice has left the black community demoralize and intimidated. Obviously, there is a mistrust towards big government; the community averts taking a stand, or making a statement against inequality and mistreatment of any sort. Over time, big government has led black to elections claiming they can be the big nanny state leaving the African American foundation even more weakened.
Change
Recently, a new generation of people in the black community are voicing their opinions, and concerns about their communities along with the big government. They are, Hip Hop Rappers. Some of these rappers have salient prose, providing optimism and solutions to everyday life. Some even include a history lesson rap, of the aboved mentioned and more. They inform future generations, that if they feel strongly about a situation, not to take the back seat. They may not shout from mountaintops, but they are using the microphone in a very influential manner.
