Tier V Unemployment: Restoring Honor vs. Claiming The Dream

By Victor Hatley on August 29, 2010, 7:19 am

Martin Luther King gave a speech on the Lincoln Memorial on August 28th. Glenn Beck decided to hold his restoring honor rally, although the campaign has little to do with restoring honor to anything, and attempt to get people to get back to what Beck sees as the religious roots of the country. Al Sharpton and others have used the words of the famed civil rights leader called Claiming the Dream. The ironic item is that the opposing rallies are both claiming causes that King himself would have approved of. It is difficult to know which one he would support today.

Restoring Honor And Claiming The Dream

Both groups tend to live on the more extreme parts of society. No moderate seriously wants the version of America that both sides represented. Glenn Beck would return America to an overly oppressive religious footing such as the one that existed in his own religion in 19th Century Utah. As bad as that may seem, the other side’s liberal policies would take the nation to something that more closely resembles the Soviet Union. Letting both sides exercise their free speech rights, no matter how nutty the moderates might find them, is one of the things that makes America great.

Can Either Side Help The Economy

The tier 5 unemployment debate continues in Washington. The Senators and other officials may have attended the rally, but most likely they are relaxing in their apartment and avoiding the downtown areas. Neither side is making claims about what the unemployment extension will or will not do. The rallies will bring a small, temporary boost to businesses in the District of Columbia. The passions, fortunately, remained much cooler than they were during the civil rights debate. Congressional leaders, most likely, will do nothing to help the economy recover, even when they return to do the people’s business on September 13th.

What a sorry state (or nation) of affairs…

If they were truly to “do the people’s business” wouldn’t that be to assist and reassure the people that they are not left alone in this economic hurricane??

Where are the ideas to show the path for all those who have arrived at the end of the road (unemp) through no fault of their own?? The distress in our lives is 24/7 — all day, every day — not just Monday thru Friday!

Senator Stabenow’s unemp. ext. and programs should be immediately voted in for stability while the powers that be consider more bold plans… Right now it seems only those “in the trenches” of middle class get the sinking feeling of economic ruin while D.C. is fiddling??

A tier V would not be needed if the jobs that were taken away from those who held them had been restored in less than 99 weeks – but that did not happen. It’s been more than 99 weeks of empty promises about job creation. The truth is, the issue has never been about job “creation” – what America wants is job RESTORATION. The jobs existed before they were taken away from millions of Americans and never restored. Whose fault is that? Well, the GOP wants to blame the Americans whose job was taken from them but this hardly makes much sense. Personally I blame the GOP because they are supported by big business and they’ve done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to encourage businesses to restore the jobs that were taken from Americans. Democrats have been busy fighting the GOP over the issue of do we help Americans or not? The GOP says – NO WAY, Americans are lazy bums. Democrats say it’s our government’s obligation to provide aid to the unemployed. The GOP has done nothing to restore the jobs and it’s starting to look intentional. The GOP is toying with Americans with filibuster games instead of encouraging big business (their supporters) to restore our jobs. It appears that the GOP is intentionally trying to “eliminate” some American workers and their families. Sort of a supremest act. But, instead of “death to the low class” they are creating wide-spread poverty and a very weak America. Nice job GOP! IT’S BEEN LONGER THAN 99 WEEKS – RESTORE AMERICA’S JOBS!!!!!!!!!
