Toyota Recall Fixes Not Working

By James Fox on March 4, 2010, 8:34 am

Just when they thought they had begun to put the recall issues behind them and they were starting to move forward, Toyota (NYSE:TM)  is facing more complaints. This time they are coming from consumers who thought they had their recalled vehicles fixed.

Gas Pedals Or Something More

Just five days after the president of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda swore before an investigative congressional oversight committee that there was not a problem with the design of their electric system, sudden acceleration complaints began to come in to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) again. The problem is that this time these are complaints on vehicles that have been recalled and supposedly fixed. NHTSA has complaints coming in through their web site. The agency has 10 reports of unintended acceleration after the fixes. Reports posted yesterday involved a 2007 and 2010 Camry, 2009 Matrix and a 2008 Avalon.

United States regulators are contacting Toyota owners who have reported problems after having their recalled vehicles repaired in an attempt to investigate whether the electric system is at fault in the acceleration problems. Many U.S. lawmakers were concerned that the recall by Toyota to modify floor mats and gas pedals blamed for unintended acceleration was not enough. The Toyota recalls involve 8 million vehicles globally. Crashes linked to the defective cars have caused 43 fatal crashes with 52 deaths and 38 injuries.

Should Older Camrys Be Recalled

Some complaints point to earlier models of Camry. Toyota did recall 2007 and newer models but it seems that the older models have sudden acceleration rates just as high as the recalled models. To be noted, the 2002 Camry had about 175 speed-control complaints. These findings have led some to believe that the problem is that Toyota is putting profit above safety.

I have a appointment 3-19-2010 to have my 2007 carmy fixed by recall, should I cancel and wait till you have worked out all the problems.

This is exactly the reason why I have not had the gas pedal fix done on my 2010 Corolla yet. Slipping a postage stamp-size bit into the pedal is ridiculous…I will be anything it is the ETC causing the problem. Sit back and watch the movie (if you can stop your vehicle in time)…

I have said from day one NOT MATS AND PEDALS !! It is electrical, common sense would tell you that!! I have told you right along that I have the vehicle that can be used for testing and it has good mats and pedals, so you won’t have to waste time looking at them. Mr. Jim Lentz and Mr. LaHood, here it is come and get it. Do as Mr. Burton from Texas told you to GO GET THAT VEHICLE !!!!
