Unemployment Extension Bill Adds 2M More To Those Without Healthcare

By Susan Thompson on July 24, 2010, 12:11 pm

The unemployment extension that just passed will give unemployment benefits back to the 2 million Americans that are still unemployed after 26 weeks without work.

Sounds Great, What’s The Catch

While this all sounds fine and good, there are some downfalls to the bill. The unemployment extension is adding $34 billion to the deficit and the National Debt. While Republicans argued that the bill should be paid for out of unspent government funds or by other budget cuts; however, the cost will be charged to the ever-growing deficit. The other side of the coin is the fact that some of the deficit is due to tax dollars that are not being paid into the government because of the raising unemployment rate.

What Does The Unemployment Extension Provide

This bill will restore unemployment benefits to Americans who suffer from long-term unemployment. This new bill allows people to receive a maximum of 99 weeks of income assistance. Before the bill, aid expired seven weeks ago.

What Is The Truth Behind This Bill

The truth is that, while some argue that this bill will hurt the economy and add to the deficit, it will actually help to mend the economy. This bill will provide just enough money for these individuals to pay for their bare necessities such as food and housing. Therefore, there will still be a desire to gain full employment. Also, it has been noted that the money spent by the government on unemployment insurance will eventually go toward the purchase of local goods and services, which boosts demand and saves jobs.

Now that everything is set in stone, many state workers will be on duty throughout the weekend in order to begin processing benefits for unemployed individuals. One such department is the California Employment Development Department. They announced that they will begin processing benefits for some 400,000 unemployed workers. The state hopes to begin issuing checks that are retroactive to late May.

And to think we get to go through all this again in November, what a nice way to spend thanksgiving day wondering what the senate will do with benefit extensions if there are any that is. More than likely the GOP will hve won the house back and maybe even the senate. If this happens at least we wont have to worry about what will happen we already know.

If you are still on UI at the end of November you can kiss that good bye if the GOP is back in the majority. This election in November is the Dems to lose and I get a ugly feeling they will do just that. I hate to see that happen but I am also a realist. Harry Reid is done for sure and the house is a given. The GOP I think will gain 45 to 49 seats in the house and the senate they will gain 4 or 5 maybe even more.

Lets hope the DEMS take it back, because if the GOP does, the unemployed is screwed but the wealthy will be just fine.

The best thing that could happen to this country is the GOP taking back the out of control spending by the Dems. We need laws that will put people back to work, not extended benefits. The GOP didnt do this, the Dem Congress did it. We need to be more responsible or we are through as a nation. Those worried about getting extended benefits when, not if the GOP wins in November will get them, but it will be as the last extention should have been. Out of unspent stimulus money, get the corrupt left out of control. Then impeach the President and repeal Obamacare. Expose the man for what he really is. An Enemy to America….Marxist Garbage. History repeats itself, if you dont learn from the past. The Racist Prez is soon to be done!!Thank GOD!!

Unemployment was at 5.7% when bush left office. We are being lied to by the alphabet media and they are using race to stir hatred and set back this country 40 years. It’s not about race its about charactor. The morally bankrupt left needs to go at all costs….period. Or you wont have to worry about a job, home ,food….you will have to worry about staying alive period. The master plan is starting to come together, but we the people are waking up. This is not the Change so many voted for. Its all smoke and mirrors. turn off the haters on the left and take responsiblity for once in your lives.

America is not about being a nanny state. We dont manufacture anything in this country anymore. It all done over seas. The govt. programs have run businesses out of our beloved country. The American people are the most generous people in the world. We own trillions to foreign govts. What about all the money we have sent to rebuilt other countries over the decades. Have they ever paid back any of that money. I say, they can all go to hell, and we dont pay them a dime. if they dont like it come and get our arses….we can destroy any enemey in the world and they all know it. get us out of the UN and take care of our own. Screw the rest of the world, not our problem anymore. We have done enough for the world, they own us for a change.

I can’t believe that I can’t even find a customer service job. I’m wondering if what people are saying is true, and that employers really are not hiring people who’ve been unemployed. It makes no sense! I want a job.During my unemployment I went to school and became a pharmacy technician. Can’t find a job in that field because I have no experience. OK so I said I’ll go back to a call center job. People won’t hire me!!!

  10. Adama says:

    @Regina

I hate that line too. Its so oxymoron like. They only want to hire the experienced…yet by that logic, what will happen once the experience retire?

Or better yet, why do people assume that only the experience can do a job well done?
