Unemployment Extension Taking Toll On Obama Popularity Rating

By Audrey Howard on July 13, 2010, 3:59 pm

The unemployment extension and jobless rate have been in the dumps for quite some time now and we continue to hear over and over again that the current administration inherited this problem from the Bush administration. It seems as though Americans are now longer going to take that same old song and dance from Obama and his Democratically controlled Congress.

CBS Poll

The latest CBS presidential approval poll show Obama’s approval rating as having slipped by 5 percentage points in one month to only 40%. The Congress and the White House seem to be incredibly out of touch when it comes to what the American people think and want.  The Congress has done nothing but go back and forth over everything from: how much “pork” they should sneak in the bill, or let’s drug test them all, or my district should have more money. They continue to try to block each other’s points of view only for their own political gain.

Congressional Arrogance

The arrogance (again) of the Senate to go on “recess” while a crisis is going has done everything to enrage the American public to the point of practically spitting blood. What is it about this administration’s arrogance that makes them think that America is going to soon come out in a full-blown rebellion? This economy is in much more trouble than simply the unemployment extension problem, it is even deeper than that. There are those that are giving strong warnings that this economy may never recover with the insane deficit spending. The unemployment rate will never come down in the current president’s short one term unless drastic changes are made immediately.

I’m a single mom with two Kids. I have worked part time jobs. I also go to school full time.I have always worked. I have worked sense I have been 14yrs. old. But I have also worked 3 different jobs that has closed. I have only have draw my first extension and you stopped it. That has hurt me. Because now I’m falling behind. I don’t like it. I have worked had to keep my house and I dont want to lose it. If it wasn’t for grant money for school I would have lost my house. I think the goverement punish the ones that are trying to work hard and that are trying to better there life.

Have Faith. God test people’s faith like this. Now you are in Darkness. Seek the light and wait for it. Pray every day and say that there is only one God, Allah and that Jesus is his prophet, then Mohammed is his last prophet every morning before dawn around 5AM and keep praying for half an hour, if tears come out, let them come out. Focus on your faith and you will see, but be patient. Fear nothing but Allah. He is your God and his capable on making anything happen.

Lay them all off, take away there privilaged lifes, make them do an honest day’s work everyday for 30 years, then lay them off again. Then waterboard them, then waterboard them some more, then ask them if they have learned anything.

There will be movement on the unemployment extension soon. Why now, finally? Because Congress is preparing for war over renewing the tax break legislation that was approved during the Bush II reign and expires on Dec. 31, 2010. With jobless benefits, GOP Congressional members demand that the extension not add to the nation’s deficit. However, word is that they won’t demand the same when voting to extend tax breaks to Americans reporting yearly income greater than $250,000. Once again, Republicans slam the little guys among us while bowing down to the gods of upper-income. Disgusting.

I served my country for better or for worse, fought in Iraq in 2004, been in the workforce and have paid into the system that is supposed to carry workeres through crisis like this one. I have been without benefits for going on six weeks, and in NYC where the cost of living is high to begin with.

Congress, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING????

  7. Charles says:

STOP saying it’s the US Senate. It’s the Senate Republicans… get it right.

It’s the Senate Republicans fillerbustering and delaying and trying to prevent the Democrats from passing this unemployment extension to help Main Street.

I have been working for 20 years continuously in the banking industry. I was laid off from GMAC and a private bank within 12months, because they shut down 50% or more operations..I have 2 children and we are struggling. Resumes go out everyday. Employers have 20 qualified people for every 1 job. It is extremely hard out there, but congress has a job. SHAME ON THEM<< Lay them all off and replace them with government that cares about the people! I am sick of hearing about there political views and agendas! Bail out the large companies that are still paying out large bonuses to the CEO's but bail out the middle class american people!!! That will be the biggest mistake they make- mark my words.. the voting public will change there vote.. I am one..There are many that feel the same.. WE ARE SICK OF THE INJUSTICE THAT IS HAPPENING TO HARD WORKING AMERICANS!

Oboma’s popularity? are you kidding me? this guy is in campain mode non stop , speach , speach speach after speach of B.S im becomming one of the believers that this man and a majority of our senate and house on both sides of the fence are completley ok with dismantaling the united states and are trying to cut any deal for themselves to secure there own future. millions of dollars invested over seas by many of them personaly… they will all be living on a tropical island in 10 years and we will be killing each other to servive. wow… im becomming a freek… i think the ship is sinking and there all going nute spending money we dont have and leaving the working productive folks in this country to sit as they take our homes , tax us to death on early emergency spending of our life savings.. am i the only one who smells what we are standing in?

  11. LegalSin says:

I disagree Brad. Many will still be living in the US in 10 years while we will be killing each other to survive.

Only thing to recommend then is to break down and raid their gated communities and then exile them to that tropical island thereafter.

  12. joe says:

stop saying its the republicans, its the entire senate. both sides have sent up bills to fix this and the other side blocks it. the president is a democrat. if it were really just republicans then wheres the executive order ending that mess?

im not a republican, but stupid comments are just that.

  13. Heather Strout says:

I have worked steadily and have paid thousands into this unemployment system my entire adult life and these ***** are not going to extend my benefits, and take a vacation?! Gods hand is slow but mighty you-republican bast****!

  14. john says:

It sure is funny how the liberals pushed through the health care bill with no help from any rebublican but cant do a thing about any long term extentions? Using the tired old excuse of : Its Bush’s fault” is long long gone. Fact of the matter is things are a whole lot worse during this administration than it ever was with the last one.
Seriosly every incumbent needs to go this november but im sure some time early october extentions will blossom but way too late for so many.

  15. Liz says:

The system is BROKEN!! They don’t want to fix it because it would mean that they would have to see how the rest of us are trying to survive. I have worked since I was 16 and even managed a job last year. But now I’m unemployed again and my benefits are about to run out while Congress goes on vacation. I hope they enjoy themselves while those of us trying to find work to pay the bills continue to worry about how to feed our children.

  16. anna says:

Obama is to busy playing golf, dinner party every Wednesday night,he lied about health care, it’s suppose to be affortable health care for all…BUT without a JOB who can afford it. American business now see that it will cost even them to much and can’t afford to hire new employees. How many citizens thought it would be free ? He is a good talker but never delivers on anything. Obama can talk the Senate behind closed doors and get health care passed BUT NOT UNEMPLOYMENT. He reports that unemployment is low, here in Nevada were at 14.7% unemployed, and how many other states are just as high and he claims that he can’t do anything…BULL
I can not think of ONE Campain Promise that he has kept. NOT ONE
He is not fit to run this country.
I did not vote for him, and PRAY TO GOD he doesn’t get re-elected in 2012. As it stands now the economist are saying even if OBAMA was gone today it will take 5 to 6 years to get the USA back on it’s feet because of all the damage OBAMA has done. He is no leader, and should not be our President.
I really think he should be IMPEACHED befor he does more dammage.

  17. peaches says:

i bet congress sleeps well art night with full stomachs and drives BMW’S AND BENZ.. they all make me sick… i wish i could keep their check and see them struggle to feed their families and watch them beg for their paychecks cuz thats what we are doing and thats begging for OUR money to feed our kids…. this is ridiculus!!!! thats ashame…

  18. Emenot says:

Hey BAMBAM: Why did you think you were elected if not for Bush? If you were stupid enough to take the job after Bush Jr, don’t cry over it! Why did you think Al Gore didn’t challenge Bush Jr after Clinton…, because he knew Clinton left behind a huge mess for his sucessor Bush Baby……..

  19. Kenneth W. Treuter says:

I never cease to be amazed at how quickly dimlibbers make what is suppose to be a short-termed helping hand into a never ending RIGHT which they demand continue until such time they are buried even though they, for all practical purposes, died many years before the dirt is thrown on their coffins.
